Artist Spotlight 1 | High Notes Music Festival 2018

Featuring Jay Gilday & The Burn Ins

Posted 7 years ago

To say we are obsessed with the lineup for the High Notes Music Festival is the understatement of 2018. It was a tough process whittling the lineup down to these six bands and we've fallen in love with their unique sounds, toe-tapping tunes, tingle inducing harmonies and infectious rhythms. These are some of Canada's best emerging artists and they will be right here March 23-25. We're shining a spotlight on the amazing bands on the High Notes roster in this blog over the next month.

ARTIST 1 | JAY GILDAY

Mail carrier by day, musician by night. Professional performer and introvert. Solo acoustic artist and yet, lead singer of a 6-piece rock band. Jay Gilday is a fantastic combination of contrasting opposites, which harmoniously balance to create his raw and soulful voice. Widely regarded as one of the most arresting and important voices in Canadian music today, Jay has earned his spot in the limelight. Recipient of Indigenous Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards (2017), Singer-songwriter of the Year, and Artists to Watch from the Edmonton Music Awards (2017).

It’s as if he can’t be limited to instruments; his smooth, leathery voice is the outstanding feature of each track on the record. As Gilday effortlessly runs through multiple genres, his musical upbringing becomes evident.” - Sierra Bilton, Vue Weekly

As a songwriter, Jay threads together the colours of his own ancestral traditions: Dene spirituals, Irish ballads, Canadian folk and rock. He was raised in a family of accomplished musicians on the tundra of Yellowknife, where his music electrifies its never-ending days and nights. Whether on the main stage of a summer festival or headlining a shadowy cabaret, Jay captivates.

Prepare to be dazzled by Jay Gilday  and his band when they take to the High Notes Festival Main Stage on Saturday, March 24.

ARTIST 2 | THE BURN INS

After a devastating motorcycle accident in 2011 put life into perspective, Aaron and Kristine Lyall sold their possessions, purchased a motor-home, left Elkford, BC and put life as they knew it in the rear-view mirror to pursue their passion of music. Since then, the talented duo better known as The Burn Ins have been paving their way to success touring across North America, winning the hearts of listeners and earning a heavy showcase of accolades along the way.

"The Burn Ins are ambassadors of a massive big electric blues sound, equally soulful and psychedelic, they sizzle like ball lightning and pound the earth like King Kong." - BC Musician Magazine

The bands’ blues rock sound will take you on a delightfully dark journey into a foot-stomping good time. Catchy drums, addictive guitar licks and the soulful vocal stylings of bassist and front woman, Kristine Lyall culminate in an electric sound and energy that sparks the dance floor. Their latest EP Start A Fire was written to inspire their listeners to “start a fire” under them and create positive change in the world, or at the very least, get them up and dancing!

The Burn Ins will be taking the Pepsi Main Stage by storm this March 24 at the High Notes Music Festival. Don’t miss a beat, click below for tickets and information.
